Support for Young People

Mikeysline came about due to the growing number of suicides amongst young people in Highland.

Support throughout the highlands

Although we welcome and support people of all ages, we still have many young people contact us for support through our text-based services and a growing number attending the Hive.

Currently we recommend that if you are under 17 years old, you attend the Hive for 1:1 support accompanied by an adult. However, we hope that we can develop specific appointments for young people to attend on their own in the future.

Current areas of work

Mental Health Wellbeing Survey
At the end of the 2020 lockdown in Highland, in partnership with Youth Highland we put out a survey to young people. The results from this survey are being used to plan and apply for funding to develop new support for young people going forward.

Young persons’ Group
We are currently setting up a group with young people who told us they would like to be involved with Mikeysline. This group will input and help us shape how we develop our support services for young people going forward.  We also have a new mural that we would like young people to help us design inside the Hive and are looking for input to this.

Mental Health Wellbeing Pack
In partnership with the Libertie Project, we are currently developing a creative mental health and wellbeing pack as part of a wider self-care pack for young people.

Work with schools
We are very keen to work more closely with schools. Due to covid, there are currently restrictions in place.  In the meantime, we liaise regularly with pupils in respective schools for the YPI. We are incredibly grateful for all the support we receive from pupils choosing Mikeysline as their charity.
